Coronavirus / Covid19 Home Antibody Testing

Appointments available

The test involves a fingerprick blood test, results are available within ten minutes. It is licensed for health care professional use only by MHRA, so we do the tests personally.

It shows immunoglobulin m and immunoglobulin g antibodies specific to Coronavirus only. Because the virus is so new, they are not predicting immunity yet, this is currently being evaluated by the scientific community.

If anyone suspects they currently have the virus they should use the NHS antigen (swab) test, as the antibody test only shows evidence of past infection.
There is a window period between infection and production of antibodies, so a false negative is possible.

The test is manufactured in the UK by a young biotec firm, clinical trials gave accuracy of 99.9% sensitivity and 98% specificity, although it was a small sample size. UK Government are currently evaluating it via larger scale studies.

A trained nurse comes to your home to do the test using full professional PPE, the first test costs £35, subsequent tests cost £25 each.

Covid19 Antibody Testing Pre-test Notes

  • The COVID19 antibody test identifies if the body has developed an antibody response to a COVID19 infection. The test is not a viral test to identify if there is a current infection.

  • The antibody test should only be performed 21 days after recovery from COVID19 symptoms or 28 days after contact with someone with COVID19 symptoms. This is to ensure that there has been enough time for detectable antibodies to have built up in the blood.

  • The test is highly specific and accurate however no test can be 100% positive. Ask the pharmacist for evidence on the test sensitivity and specificity.
